Training in scientific diving is an OSHA requirement for students and professionals wishing to work for science underwater. While the CSU offers AAUS scientific diving training to students, and is already subsidizing the cost of training, few students had the chance to start diving at an early age to meet the pre-requisites for the course. Part of the reason is that SCUBA diving is not exactly cheap.
This project is aimed at financially supporting students from financially challenged backgrounds, so they can afford to gain the pre-requisite experience. Your support will be a key for students to afford to get into SCUBA diving and gain prior experience in order to qualify for beginning the scientific diving course. This shall ultimately open the door for them to embark upon a carreer in marine science.
